Crash Test Theatre(CTT)
Running right now in several Australian cities as Crash Test Drama for over a decade, The Writers Centre Singapore has brought the unique play writing and performance platform to our shores. CTT is an incredible opportunity for budding and seasoned talent to develop local playwriting, directing and acting skills. How does it work? Six ten-minute plays are selected for each session. Writers are given at least a week’s notice of when their play will be performed. At 3.30 pm on the day, writers and directors assemble to cast their plays from the actors in attendance. All scripts are rehearsed next and performed as MOVED READINGS from 5.30pm-7pm before the audience and panel of judges. (A moved reading is where actors move around. They might might make use of simple props, but carry their scripts in their hands.) Once all of the plays have been performed for the day, the Popular Vote Winner and the Judge’s Choice both go through to the Crash Test Theatre Finals during the Lit Up Asia Pacific Festival. If these are the same, the Judge’s Runner Up goes through to the Finals. The best two plays performed each month will be featured in the finals as fully staged productions during Lit Up Asia Pacific Festival. The best two productions at the grand finale will win the cash prizes, with prizes for Best Director and Actor as well. |
