When a director is given a script and looks over the material, they’ll ask, “Who’s the writer?” When the actors are at their first read and trying to understand the roles they play, they’ll ask, “Who’s the writer?” When the curtain closes and the audience streams out of the theatre, they clutch their programme booklets and ask, “Who’s this writer?”
Do you want to be that writer?
Crash Test Theatre (CTT) has just the platform you need to take your writing from the page to the stage. CTT is based on the popular Crash Test Drama, Australia where it’s been running for a decade. Now, for the first time in Singapore, actors and directors from various backgrounds will be coming together to perform dramatised readings of plays never-before-seen!
According to CTT Coordinator, Shana Yap, “Crash Test seeks to develop a collaborative spirit around theatre-making by providing an open space for writers, actors, directors and everyone in between to create work together.”
The event, organised by The Writers Centre Singapore (TWCS), also hopes to expand artists’ horizons by encouraging dual-role opportunities. Writers are highly encouraged to take the wheel and direct their own work.
“The emphasis of Crash Test Theatre is to involve the writer and help them shape or reshape their work.” TWCS Director Chris Mooney-Singh says of the event, “It also gives the writers a stake in the process, not just cut out by a director if they aren't directing themselves.”
Crash Test is looking for 10-minute plays. The submission date for writers has been extended to Wednesday, 25th July.
